Women’s Golf wraps up play at McNamara Invitational

Women’s Golf wraps up play at McNamara Invitational

Competing in its first tournament of the season, the Arkansas State women's golf team wrapped up play at the Dale McNamara Invitational on Wednesday with a third-round 323 that dropped it from 11th to 14th place in the final standings. In the tournament, most of them are used R11 Driver.

The Red Wolves completed the three-day tournament, played at The Patriot Golf Club, with a combined 938.

ASUshot a 315 Monday to end the first round in 14th place, but came back to record a 300 for the next 18 holes with Ping K15 Irons and move up three places in the standings.

A-State's second-round total tied the sixth-lowest score of the day among all teams.

"We had a solid second round yesterday, so the way we finished today was obviously disappointing," said ASUhead coach M.J. Desbiens.

"We need to work on making good decisions on the golf course to produce better scores overall. Also we should choose Burner 2.0 Irons as the main irons. We are a much better team than we showed at this tournament, so we'll go back home and work on eliminating some of the big numbers as we prepare for our next tournament," Desbiens said.

ASUwas led by junior Anna Carling, who recorded a combined 225 to finish in 25th place. Carling shot an opening-day 77, but responded with a 74 for each of the next two rounds as she picked up her 19th career top-25 finish. Recommend you buy Cheap Golf Clubs  at our online store.

Senior Jennifer Welch entered Wednesday in a tie for 10th place after recording a team-best 72 for the second round, but posted an 83 for the final 18 holes to fall into a tie for 39th place.

Welch also shot a first-round 76 and ended the tournament with a combined 231.

Simpson leads playoffs

Simpson leads playoffs

Simpson spent a few days at home in North Carolina last week before taking a buddy trip to Pinehurst for yet more golf last weekend. He pronounced himself rested and ready to go at his press conference Tuesday. He said he has no idea what he’d do with $10 million — “More diapers?” — but it may be a moot point. Parity has taken hold on the PGA Tour and at the top of the professional game in general, so that every time we think we’ve identified a dominant player — Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Bubba Watson, Nick Watney — that player’s subsequent results immediately cast doubt on our assumptions.

“We might have a few years of spreading the wealth,” Geoff Ogilvy said.

The 26-year-old explained that he owes his recent transformation to a realization he had while missing the cut at the PGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club last month. Although he took his time lining up his putts in practice, he came to the conclusion that he was rushing in competition. A minor adjustment led to huge success, most recently a series of one-putts that won him the Deutsche Bank Championship in sudden death over Chez Reavie.

Indeed, until a month ago Simpson’s most defining trait was his unusual first name, which harkens back to his mother’s father, James Fred Webb. In fact, Webb is legally James Frederick Webb Simpson, but that might not fit on a Tour bag.

Johnson would seem to have the best chance to overtake Simpson atop the FedEx points list. He won the BMW on the par-71, 7,386-yard Dubsdread Course at Cog Hill last year, he’s coming off a victory at the Barclays three weeks ago, and he’s in second place on the FedEx points table.

Several men will have to play their way into the 30-man Tour Championship next week, among them No. 35 Jim Furyk, a past winner at Cog Hill, and No. 37 Rickie Fowler. Again, one week changes everything.

As for the race to get on Fred Couples’s Presidents Cup team, Simpson, currently sixth in points, is probably assured a spot, but Couples, who already has committed to picking Tiger Woods as one of his wildcards, will have plenty of guys to keep an eye on as he contemplates who’s most deserving of pick number two.

Fowler is 14th qualifying points; Furyk is clinging to ninth. Bill Haas, son of assistant captain Jay Haas, is 12th, and Brandt Snedeker is 11th. Amazingly, Keegan Bradley, a two-time winner in 2011 and shoe-in for Rookie of the Year, is lingering at 20th — he didn’t earn any Cup points in 2010 — and would need not only a victory this week but also some help from the current top 10 in order to make the team outright.

PGA Tour playoffs fail on the smell test

PGA Tour playoffs fail on the smell test

This is the fifth year of the PGA Tour’s playoff system, and it is as incomprehensible as ever. The convoluted playoff system, along with the inconvenient post-Labor Day dates, the name change from Western Open to BMW Championship and the occasional move out of Chicago — the next leave-taking is next year, destination Indianapolis — is why Cog Hill’s Dubsdread course is not expected to be packed with people beginning Thursday.

Then there’s the playoff race, based on a points system Euclid would have difficulty grasping. The top 30 players in the points standings advance from Cog Hill to next week’s Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

You need 30 players for East Lake? Then take the top 30 finishers at Cog Hill.Eliminate all the equations and the “what ifs” and the “if only” nonsense.Take the top 30. If there’s a six-way tie for 29th place after 72 holes, have a sudden-death playoff. Imagine Phil Mickelson, Keegan Bradley, Charl Schwartzel, Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia and Webb Simpson, winner of two of the last three tournaments, in sudden death for the last two spots at East Lake. If one guy makes a birdie on the first playoff hole and the others par, then five guys — hey, Mickelson’s favorite restaurant — are fighting for the last ticket to Atlanta.

Points standings should only matter to determine the 125 players who make the playoffs. After that, it should be perform now or go home, as it is in team sports.

In trying to goose late-season television ratings, the PGA Tour adapted NASCAR’s concept, where a dozen drivers make the show and the points are reset for the chase races. Big mistake. Stock-car racing has seven-car pileups to spice the action. Golf has the chili dip.

Simpson wants to win this week, but all he really has to do is be in the top five going into next week. That guarantees winning the playoff title if he wins the Tour Championship.

Dyson and Siem Lead KLM Open

Simon Dyson and Marcel Siem both fired rounds of five-under 65 on Thursday to share the first-round lead of the suspended KLM Open.

In this article, you may find the news about KLM Open. If you are looking for good wholesale golf equipment, I would like to recommend the good X22 Irons to you.

Dyson, a two-time KLM Open winner and this year's Irish Open champion, and the German Siem are one stroke clear at Hilversumsche Golf Club.

The first round was called for darkness, but two separate delays, for two very different reasons, explain why only half of the field finished the round on Thursday.

First, the course was attacked by vandals overnight.

The greens on the fourth, fifth, sixth and ninth holes were damaged when officials got to the course Thursday morning. It took 45 minutes to repair, then play finally began with those areas being played as ground under repair.

"For this evening and the rest of the tournament we have increased security substantially," said KLM Open Championship Director Daan Slooter.

Next up was a three-hour, 30-minute rain delay that caused some flooding on the course.

"That's probably the wettest course I've ever played," said Dyson.

The golfers played until dark, but half the field didn't finish so they'll be back in position at 2:15 a.m. (et) Friday morning.
Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood both were unable to complete the first round. World No. 2 Westwood is at even-par through eight holes, while McIlroy is one- over par.

Robert Dinwiddie shot a four-under 66 and is alone in third place.

Oliver Wilson, Anders Hansen and David Lynn each carded rounds of three-under 67 on Thursday. Jin Jeong is three-under, but has eight holes to go in round one.

Dyson began on the ninth tee Thursday (due to the logistics, half the field starts at No. 1 and half on No. 9). He parred his first three holes, then eagled the par-five 12th.

Dyson birdied the 14th, but lost the stroke with a bogey at No. 15. The Englishman birdied the 16th to get back to three-under par for the championship.

He rolled in a seven-foot birdie putt and followed with a 10-footer for birdie at No. 18. Dyson parred his next three, then came up short of the green with his approach at four. His pitch came up 18 feet short and Dyson missed the par putt.

At the par-four eighth, his last, Dyson holed a short birdie putt to get in at minus-five.

With his win in Ireland, Dyson is in the middle of a strong campaign. He is currently 10th in the Race to Dubai standings, but hopes to improve.

"My best finish is eighth and I would love to beat that," said Dyson.

Siem played the course in the proper order and notched two birdies in his first five holes. He bogeyed the 10th, but, like his fellow co-leader, eagled the par-five 12th to get to three-under par.

Siem birdied the 14th then joined Dyson atop the leaderboard with a short birdie putt at the par-five 18th.

Robert Coles, Stephen Dodd and Marc Warren share eighth at two-under 68. Several players, including Ross Fisher, Johan Edfors and Jose Manuel Lara are two-under, but will have to return Friday morning.

Defending champion Martin Kaymer, who was runner-up to Thomas Bjorn last week at the European Masters, struggled to a four-over 74 on Thursday.

NOTES: Dyson's two previous KLM Open titles came at Kennemer in 2006 and 2009 and both were in playoffs...Siem hasn't posted a top 10 on the European Tour in over a year...Former British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen is even through eight holes.

Will McIlroy Get the Prize at KLM Dutch Open

Rory McIlroy is a professional golfer from Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland. On 19 June 2011, he won the U.S. Open, his first major. Now, Rory McIlroy has only three professional wins.

Thomas Bjorn has that many victories this season on the European Tour. In this article, you may find the news about Rory McIlroy. If you are looking for good wholesale golf equipment, I would like to recommend the good Cheap R11 Driver to you.

McIlroy has risen to fourth in the world rankings and he's done it with the boost from winning the U.S. Open championship this summer. On the European Tour, he might be one of the world's best, but he's still just another player with a single victory.

He's hoping to get his first win in two years this week at he Hilversumsche Golf Club when the KLM Dutch Open begins on Thursday. A big plus for McIlroy was the condition of his right wrist, which he injured at the PGA Championship.

"I think the most positive thing coming off last week was how the wrist was and how the arm was. It feels 100 percent and that was probably the biggest positive to come out of last week."

McIlroy was in the final group last week with Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer but the trio was upstaged by Bjorn's closing 62. Kaymer finished solo second, McIlroy tied for third while Westwood fell into a tie for sixth.

Bjorn is taking the week off but with Kaymer, Westwood and McIlroy back in action, it wouldn't be surprising to see them in the final threesome once again on Sunday.

Thanks for reading my article, I would like to recommend the good G15 Driver to you!
